1st Test Report – Rain takes away from India a shot at victory in series-opener, match ends in draw
We were expecting rain on days three and four but it chose to come on day five. It would have been enjoyable toplay and watch, but it's a shame. This is exactly what we wanted to do; start strong. On day five we knew we had our chances. We certainly felt like we were on top of the game. Getting that lead was crucial, but it's a shame we couldn't finish day five. Getting to fifty overnight was important. We just didn't want to play for survival. Our intent kept us ahead. It's hard work of three odd weeks for our bowlers with the bat. We were talking of a lead of 40-odd but we ended up with 95 and those runs were gold dust. Most likely this will be our template in this series, but adaptability has been our strength. The conditions and the pace on the wicket needs to be seen, but this team will be our template. England and India have always been a blockbuster, and looking forward to the next Test.
Disappointments all around but we move forward!
Sadly, that is it. India got the honours maybe but that doesn't mean much. Root's century has saved England. To Lords now
A sad end to the first Test of the 5-match series!

It’s official – The match has been called off!
So finally, the worst news has come! Umpires had a close look at the playing conditions and they have decided to call off the match. There was a persistent downpour and the puddles had also formed. Keeping in mind, time it will take to get the field ready and the safety of players, the umpires have called it a day. So, the first Test ends in a draw without a single ball being bowled on the fifth and final day.
And, it’s BACK again! This is absolutely frustrating!
Quite a few puddles are visible now as well! Umpires are on the field, with their umbrellas, assessing the playing conditions. They will also have to keep the safety of the players in mind. If this continues for some more time, then we will be forced to a draw!
